Thankfulness

Thankfulness…..that’s what we need. We all need a good dose of reflecting on what we are thankful for every now and then. I know that it is hard at times to be content with what we have, but it is something that we need to put into practice. If we don’t we will end up being bitter and unhappy. My mother, is rounding the bend to her ninth decade of life. She gets discouraged and tells me that she took excellent care of herself and she shouldn’t be dealing with the issues that she is dealing with. I know that it is hard when you can no longer get around without your cane, can’t drive, and find that the print is never big enough. But what she really needs to concentrate on is that she is still alive and  what she CAN do. In perspective, the alternative is not the best option!!

This year, as we gather together with family and friends, find a restaurant , go to work, or sit alone with a frozen dinner on Thanksgiving day…be thankful…..be content….and you will find happiness.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Being Thankful: How Gratitude Benefits Your Health and Relationships

Voting and Veterans Day

This is a busy week …..

Please exercise your RIGHT TO VOTE  and be an example to your children

The Fifteenth Amendment (Amendment XV) to the United States Constitution prohibits the federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen’s “race, color or previous condition of servitude.” It was ratified on February 3, 1870, .

Upcoming events

Parent Teacher Conferences   October 17th , 2016

Please make sure that you are checking your child’s grades using Infinite Campus. If you find that your child is missing an assignment have him/her stay for tutoring to catch up . The next homework deadline will be on October 31st.  We will be out for our  break from October 24-28. This is a good time to have your child READ. He should be at 25 points in order to stay on track. Please check your child’s Prime Grade to see how many points have been earned. I updated the number on October 7th. Again, reading needs to be done at school and home in order for your child’s success. It counts for 10% of the English grade and is factored in at the end of the semester.  Either take your child to the public library or have him/her get extra books before fall break.

Prime Reading

Parents,

Your child is responsible to obtain 50 AR points by the end of the first semester. In order to do this your child  needs to read outside of the Prime Classroom. We do have about 25 quality minutes in class, but it is not enough. Students should have at least 10 points, by now, to stay on track.

How you can help  your child in this endeavor:

Provide a quiet environment for reading ( and homework)

Request that your child creates an after school schedule that builds in reading time

Read as a family so they can see the importance of literature

Have your child sign on to Accelerated Reader so that you can see his/her progress. They can not take

tests at home, but you can track your child’s progress.

WELCOME BACK YEAR 2016-2017

phone summer2015 084Hello and Welcome!!

Are you ready to begin a new school year?  This will be  your place to stay current on what is going on in the classroom each and every week. If you are in my 7th or 8th grade English Language Arts class you will need to come to school prepared to read, write, and discuss various texts. One of the ways to do this is to purchase two, wide or college ruled, notebooks to use for the class. It is also important to have some type of system for keeping your notes and papers in. Some students choose to use a binder and others use folders. As long as your system works for you and keeps you organized you can use whichever you prefer.

If you are in my Social Studies 7 Class you will need to buy colored pencils or crayons for this class. Again, it is important to have some type of a system for keeping your papers and projects in order and accessible.

Always have a few pencils and pens in your backpack because the school does not provide student materials.

I am looking forward to a great school year!!! Welcome !!
